The birthplace of Belphégor… and Odilon Redon ?
Odilon Redon is a famous painter and we are often asked whether he was born in Redon. The answer is no, even though it sounds like he should have been !
Our claim to fame in the field of painting lies elsewhere : the beautiful St Jean de Bretagne pottery often found in antique shops is actually that of St Jean-la-Poterie, which is proudly displayed today at Le Patiau.
However, Belphégor is definitely from around here! Or rather his creator, the prolific 20th century writer, Arthur Bernède, was born here. You can see the house where he was born on the Redon history trail.
